out on the highway
I was finally free
and the only voice I heard
was the one inside of me

and I saw for the first time
things I had never seen
and what was right before my eyes
was more than I could dream

and I moved
through those days
without a thought of tomorrow
or yesterdays

sun rose
the day would start
and I put my shoes on
with a smile in my heart

the snow came early
there was nothing to eat
I was so hungry
and far too tired to sleep

the sun stopped rising
into the winter sky
and I fell so low
I could not even try

and I moved
through those days
in my shell
with not a lot to say

the sun rose
and the day would start
and I could barely remember
the smile in my heart

pressure makes a diamond
so why ain’t I shining

took my boots off
came in from the rain
the look she gave me
was all she had to say

looking back on it all
the dark and the light
seems like a dream
that turned out alright

and I move
through these days
something smolders
in its quiet way

the sun rises
the day it starts
and I let the cat out
with a smile in my heart

I look out the back door
with a smiling heart
I put my shoes on
